Privacy notice
Last updated: 2026-09-17
Real vs Rendered is a small daily guessing game. We don't use accounts or advertising. This notice explains the little that is stored on your device and sent to our server, including the optional Google Analytics we only use with your consent.
Strictly necessary (no consent needed)
-
Anonymous device ID (
ror.anon) — a random value created in your browser. It lets us count each puzzle only once per browser profile and keeps the global scores fair. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account. -
Consent choice (
ror.consent) — remembers which optional items you allowed, so we don't keep asking.
Optional (only with your consent)
- Zoom preference (
ror.zoomMode) — whether you prefer zoom or loupe. - Help seen (
ror.helpSeen) — so the "how to play" screen doesn't reopen every visit. - Analytics cookies (
_ga,_ga_QDPBN1246J) — see Analytics below.
You can allow or reject these at any time. If you reject the preferences, they are removed and never written; the game still works, but zoom falls back to the default and the help screen may appear again.
Analytics (optional)
If you allow it, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID
G-QDPBN1246J) to understand how many people visit the game.
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga,
_ga_QDPBN1246J, typically kept for up to 14 months) and collects
a truncated IP address, approximate location, device and browser details,
and the page you came from. We do not send your anonymous game ID or any
account data to Google, and we do not use advertising features.
The service is provided by Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC and may involve transfers outside the EEA under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time via cookie settings — the Google tag is not loaded until you allow Analytics, and withdrawing removes its cookies. See Google’s privacy policy.
What is sent to the server
When you play, the game sends your anonymous device ID, a per-game play ID, the photo you guessed, and how long you took. We use this to run the one-play-per-device rule, show you your result, and compute aggregate statistics (such as how convincing each AI model is). No account, name, or email is required to play.
Retention
One-play claim markers expire after the configured window (default 90 days), after which the same device may play that puzzle again. Aggregate statistics are anonymous and may be kept indefinitely.
Cookies and third parties
The game's fonts, styles, and scripts are served from this site. The only third-party request is the Google Analytics tag, which is loaded only after you allow Analytics; if you reject it, your browser never contacts Google for this site.
Your choices and rights
- Change or withdraw optional preferences and analytics via cookie settings.
- Clear your browser storage to remove the anonymous ID (this resets your device identity).
- Contact us to ask about the (anonymous, non-identifying) data associated with your device ID.
