About Real vs Rendered
Real vs Rendered is a free daily game about telling AI images from real photographs. Each day you get six photos: five are AI-generated and one is a genuine photograph from a public-domain archive. Eliminate the fakes to win — but if you pick the real photo, it's game over.
How to play
- Six photos: five are AI rendered, one is a real photograph.
- Tap a photo to inspect it up close, with zoom or a magnifying loupe.
- If you think a photo is AI rendered, mark it.
- Eliminate all five fakes to win; pick the real photo and you lose.
Where the photos come from
The real photograph is sourced from Wikimedia Commons and must be CC0 or public domain — no attribution or ShareAlike obligations. The five AI images are generated from a text description of that photo, so they share its era, subject, lighting, and film-like look, making the comparison genuinely hard. Everything is normalised to the same size, so resolution can't give the answer away.
Stats and fairness
After each game you can see how other players did, including the distribution of how many AI photos people identified and each model's fool rate — how often it was shown but not spotted. Plays are counted once per browser profile so the numbers reflect real games.
Privacy
No account is needed. We store a random anonymous device ID to keep scores fair, and use optional Google Analytics only if you allow it. See the privacy notice for details.
