Nano Banana 2.1

Google's update to Nano Banana 2, with sharper, more realistic pictures at roughly half the price.
Not enough plays yet — the fool rate appears once this model has been shown in a finished puzzle.
Nano Banana 2.1 is the latest fast image model from Google DeepMind, released on 6 October 2026. It is an update to Nano Banana 2, not a new generation. Google describes it as keeping the speed and low cost of its Flash models while improving picture quality, how closely it follows instructions, how well it keeps a character looking the same over several edits, and how it handles text.
Where it fits
Google now has two main image models. Nano Banana Pro is the slower, more careful option for high-end work, and Nano Banana 2.1 is the cheaper, faster one that most people will meet day to day. Tech press reported that it was rolling out to the Gemini app, AI Mode in Google Search, Google Ads and Google's tools for developers and designers. It replaces Nano Banana 2, which Google said it would retire for developers.
What changed
Google says pictures look more realistic at every size it makes, from the default 1K up to 4K. It also fixed a specific flaw in Nano Banana 2: very wide or very tall panoramic images could show repeating, tiled patterns at the larger sizes. Text and infographic layouts are more accurate too.
You can give it up to fourteen reference images at once, and Google says it can keep up to four characters and ten objects consistent across them. It can look things up with Google Search, including image search, before drawing, and it can take a video or a PDF as well as text and photos as a starting point. Developers can choose how much the model “thinks” about a request before it draws, trading speed for care.
The biggest change for businesses was the price. Reports at launch put the cost of a standard image through Google's developer service at about half what Nano Banana 2 charged, which makes it even more likely to turn up in apps that churn out pictures in bulk.
Watch out for
Google's launch material described what the model can do rather than publishing independent test results, so its claims about realism have not been checked by outsiders. For players of this game, better realism is exactly the point: the odd textures and garbled lettering that once gave Google's images away are getting harder to find.
