Krea 2 Large

Krea 2 Large is the larger of the two Krea 2 image models from Krea. Krea announced Krea 2 on 12 May 2026 and let its Pro subscribers pick Large or Medium three days later, with everyone else getting access on 18 May. It was the company's first foundation model, meaning one it trained from scratch rather than building on someone else's.

Where many image models chase prompt accuracy, Krea 2 puts as much weight on style. You can give it one or more style reference pictures or a moodboard and tune how closely it follows them, and sliders nudge an image's intensity, complexity and movement. It currently makes images at around 1K resolution.

Large or Medium

Krea says Large is more than twice the size of Medium and has had a lighter touch in its final training. That makes its pictures rawer and more textured, with things like motion blur and film grain, and it is the one Krea recommends for photorealism. Medium is faster, cheaper and more polished, and does best at illustration, anime and painting.

Who makes it

Krea is a small San Francisco start-up run by Victor Perez and Diego Rodriguez. It made its name with a creative app that brings together image, video and other AI tools, many of them other companies' models, and said in 2025 it had more than 20 million users. By then it had raised about $83 million, with Andreessen Horowitz leading one round and Bain Capital Ventures another.

History

Krea released two Krea 2 checkpoints, Raw and Turbo, as downloadable open weights in June 2026, along with a technical report. Shortly after launch the benchmarking site Artificial Analysis listed it as the top image model from an independent research lab. In October 2026 Krea followed up with Krea 3, a fast editing model that became the default in its app, though Krea still points people to Krea 2 for style references and moodboards.
